BIo: Davin Anthony Thompson, also known as Do D.A.T, is an arts educator and emcee hailing from Oakland, California. Davin has spent the majority of his life as a creative writer, performing artist and engaging facilitator.. Davin blends the art of emceeing into his facilitation style to captivate audiences of all ages and backgrounds through thought provoking socially conscious music and interactive workshops. With over 20 years of experience working with in  the nonprofit sector, Davin has gained perspective in various realms of helping professions including trauma-informed care, clinical frameworks and theories, social-emotional wellness, creative expression, mindfulness, and music education. He has supported over a dozen organizations as a lead artist, workshop facilitator, event creator, artist development mentor, and a variety of other roles. As an emcee, Do D.A.T. has had several musical album releases as a solo artist and other collaborative partnerships. He has performed on world renown stages such as the San Francisco Fillmore, Oakland Fox Theater, and the Historical Apollo theater in Harlem New City. With his passion for creative expression, Davin loves poems, short stories, and recording songs in the form of Hip Hop music. As a student of life, he continues to grow his artistic skills and mindfulness practice of meditation that helps him stay grounded as a dedicated artist.

Workshop: Feeding the CIPHER: utilizing the BEATs framework to decolonize nutrition for ourselves and our communities.

Workshop Info: The universal beat of life is the heartbeat, and it is what binds us together. The beat makes you feel. Certain beats allow us to feel different emotions. It elicits memories of profound and personal moments.  

If our body is an instrument and our beats are our actions in life…How do we take care of our instruments? How can instruments be in multiple cyphers? How do we care for all the instruments in our different cyphers?

Our nutritional journey can be impacted by our feelings and emotions. This workshop will explore how your sense of self impacts your nutrition.

Bio: Allen Byron Natividad Ocampo is a critical entertainer, ethnic studies educator, and cultural food historian. Graduating from USF with a BS in Accounting & Finance and SFSU with an MA in Asian American Studies, he possesses over a decade of experience educing counter-narratives within classrooms and higher education administrations throughout the Bay Area. Additionally, he has nearly fifteen years of analytical experience supporting various government/non-profit agencies throughout the Bay Area. With these collective experiences, he is determined to translate that same passion for humanizing the stories and narratives of minoritized communities through the performing and culinary arts.

As a product of the culture; he is a world renowned bboy, featured on syndicated tv shows such as America's Best Dance Crew and So You Think You Can Dance. A current member of The Triple Threat Djs; an internationally sought after dj group founded in 1999, based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Turning passion into profession, Raul holds the responsibility of Managing Director at Creative Transit Agency LLC; a marketing agency that brings brands and communities together through curated design & experience.  RJ started the CTA to establish a new standard in talent & project management.  The vision is to lead an agency that represents its' talents' goals, understand clients' needs, while contributing to the rich creative arts culture of the Bay Area.

Bio: Rus Slumbeautiful is a multifaceted Filipina artist working both as a Freelance Graphic Designer and DJ in Oakland, CA for over 20yrs. Her musical styles are deeply rooted in the city of Chicago and the Bay Area which nurtured and inspired her production throughout her event industry career.  Her current musical exploration includes Underground Dance Edits/Electronic House Music and Hip Hop/R&B. Workshop Panelist: Eric Nodora - emagn1

Bio: Nodora’s versatile style keeps him busy working on painting on canvas, on the wall, and on computer graphics and designs. A true artist, he continues to cultivate his ever growing passion. His love for painting has led him to studying drawing and fine arts at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and San Francisco State University. With two educations, one from the streets and one from the University at an academic level, Nodora has uniquely strong background that continues to further his creative style.

Nodora grew up in Sacramento and has been living in the Bay Area for 17 years. He has worked as an active community arts organizer, youth arts teacher, muralist, and graphic designer. Nodora has done commercial work for the Jabbawockeez, Under Armour, Lulu Lemon, And1, Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Oakland A’s, Tesla, as well as various media, art shows, galleries and on going public spaces.

Workshop Info: This workshop includes beginning/intermediate level technique training in hip-hop and cultural dances from the Afro-Latino/Caribbean diaspora (Reggaeton, Dancehall, Salsa, Afro-Cuban

Folkloric/Popular, Afro-Brazilian Contemporary and much more) There will be choreographed warm ups with isolations, strengthening and movement. This class will incorporate dances/movement from the Afro Latino diaspora with hip hop movements.

Bio: Mitzi Ulloa is a Bay Area Visual/performing artist and educator, with experience spanning more than two decades. She currently teaches at Sequoia Union High School District and Skyline College. She has performed in various venues throughout the Bay Area, Latin America/Caribbean and performs with the Arenas Dance Company & La Cumbiamba Colombiana. She is an advocate for critical theory, art for social change and culturally relevant pedagogy. She sparks creativity and inspiration within her students supporting them as they voice their narratives through their creative process.

Bio: Jose Cordonalso known as CordonConcepts, is a sought after spoken word artist, Antioch’s Poet Laureate, and founder of Grassroots Poetry. Cordon has shared his poetry with the US Treasury, Google, several universities, and many organizations across the state. His poetry has been viewed over a million times across social media. And he’s also been featured in billboard campaigns and starred in a award-winning short film titled La Vida Loca with a million views and counting. Cordon combines his command of words, cadence, and thoughtful nature with his experience as a community organizer to deliver original, passionate, and moving poem that are changing the way people think about poetry.

Bio: LiL MC is a Bay Area Bilingual rapper, singer, producer and battle rap champion. She's captivated audiences as a professional performing artist for 15 years with her dynamic delivery, sassy wordplay, and bilingual flow. Her songs have been featured in video games like NBA 2K21 & 2K22, as well as several commercials and independent films. She also works as a Hip Hop Educator with Freight and Salvage and is the Program Coordinator at Hip Hop For Change. Over the course of the past 5 years she's played a key role in developing and implementing many of Hip Hop For Changes flagship Programs like the Women's Empowerment Program, Hip Hop In The Park, and Agents Of Change. She's passionate about building Hip Hop community and culture in the Bay Area and amplifying Bay Area artists, which is evident through the mentorship programs she's developed at Hip Hop For Change and in founding the Queens of the Underground, a woman-powered performance showcase and professional development platform. Her upcoming album, "Flex Maquina", will feature a track with one of her students that she's been mentoring for the past 4 years, a trend she will continue with every future project as a way to usher in the next generation of Bay Area artists.

Bio: Fego Navarro is a Salvadoran American Artist/Filmmaker from San Francisco, CA. Fego is the Creative Director of the artist collective Lyrical Opposition, a California 501(c)(3) arts nonprofit that cultivates lyrical artists to oppose injustice through social awareness & systemic change. Lastly, he is the Director of a poetic documentary titled Re-Entrification, a film that tells the story of 5 residents displaced from their homes due to the city's high cost of living.

Bio: My name is Marvin Santiago Jimenez, an aspiring film Producer/Director from San Francisco, Ca. I got a degree in multimedia from Cal State Eastbay in Hayward. After graduating I got the opportunity to work with various artists from Latin Grammy winners like Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny to great artists like Kamaiyah from Oakland California.  Since the pandemic I’ve been managing the social media for a couple startups in the bay area, while creating my own video productions with clients from places like Miami, Mexico, LA, Detroit,  Seattle Washington to Minnesota.

Bio for Da Rap Nerd: Elwin G. Williams III, professionally known as Da Rap Nerd, is a multi-talented artist, producer, DJ, and hip-hop educator. With a solid foundation as the former bassist for Del The Funky Homosapien from 2013 to 2015, Elwin has honed his skills and expertise in the music industry.

Drawing inspiration from his experiences with the legendary Hieroglyphics crew, Da Rap Nerd has emerged as a certified Pro Tools User, producer, and songwriter. His passion for hip-hop education and artist development has spanned over a decade, during which he has collaborated with renowned organizations such as Today's Future Sound, Alameda County Juvenile Correction Facility, Richmond College Prep, and Rock the School Bells.

Bio for Ken Laxamana: Ken Laxamana AKA Lax the Monk is a Finger Drummer, Beat Maker/music producer, and an engineer. He started making beats at the age of 17, teaching himself. After serving in the US Army, he attended Academy of Art University and studied Music Production/Sound Design. Having graduated in 2021 he got his BFA degree in Music Production. He has certifications in multiple Digital Audio Workstations such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Ableton Live just to name a few. He began teaching youth Music Production and Finger Drumming techniques on the MPC and engaging in Therapeutic Beat Making (TBM) in 2021 after he met the Executive Director of Today's Future Sound, Dr. Elliot Gann.

Bio: Amir Esfahani is an artist and associate professor at Skyline College. His artwork juxtaposes elements of technology, graffiti, and patterns.

Grude 1 is part of the legendary CA crew out of San Francisco. Grudge is a local artist who has participated in Rock The School Bells since 2018 and has also done live painting for Precita Eyes in their yearly Urban Youth Festival in the summer time at Precita Park in the Mission District. Mural production and commissions Grudge has even had the opportunity to paint a  production for Sunset Youth Services and Internet Archive both non profit organizations in San Francisco.

Bio: I am the Legendary Ryan "Christopher" Milan, the first Old Way Legend from the West Coast. I have been involved in Ballroom since 2005. Ballroom to me is family. It’s community. It’s acceptance, both by others and of myself. Ballroom is where I truly found my strength and creativity. It’s the first space where I was able to show up powerfully as my full, authentic self. It’s where I gained the confidence I carry with me into all other aspects of my life. It’s where I learned to lead and where I learned to follow. Ballroom is a way of life, and I feel blessed to have found my home here. I look forward to Voguing the Old Way (the Only Way) with everyone soon!

Hip Hop As CRITICAL PEDAGOGY

Dr. Dawn-Elissa Fischer is a co-founder of the National Hip Hop Political Convention and a founding staff member of the Hiphop Archive in the Hutchins Center at Harvard University. Her work appears in the Smithsonian Anthology of Rap and Hip Hop, and she is an adviser to KQED’s That’s My Word: 50 Years of Bay Area Hip Hop.  She is a professor in Anthropology and affiliate faculty in the Educational Leadership doctoral program at San Francisco State University (SFSU). She is a life member of the Association for the Study of African Life and History, the National Council of Black Studies, and has served as a department chair in Africana Studies at SFSU. Dr. Fischer is part of the leadership team for SF Transforms, funded by the National Science Foundation’s ADVANCE Program, which aims to increase the participation and advancement of women in academic STEM Careers.

Born in San Francisco and raised in next-door Daly City, he began performing at the age of 6 and started his music career at just 12 years old. He writes and produces his own songs but also makes beats for others under the alias “FRANCISMADEIT”. His music has been featured on radio stations such as 99.7 NOW and 106.1 KMEL as well as on those of various universities.
