ALL-STYLES DANCE BATTLE: VIRTUAL EDITION
Breakdancing started almost 50 years ago by African Americans and Latin Americans in the 1970's in the Bronx, New York. There were cyphers (dance circles) where breakdancers would showcase their talents that eventually led to individuals/crews competing to win the respect of their community. Over the years, breakdancing competitions got bigger and bigger and now it's a global phenomenon. Some of the biggest breakdancing competitions are Freestyle Sessions, R16, Battle of the Year, and Red Bull BC One. And now, breakdancing may have its biggest global stage ever with breakdancing being a part of the 2024 Olympics in France.
Rock The School Bells wanted to take the amazing energy of a Breakdancing Battle and bring it to our Hip Hop Conference that promotes Higher Education. We wanted to be inclusive of other dances/styles/cultures, so we adopted the All-Styles Dance Battle format, which includes (but is not limited to) Breakdancing, Popping, Locking, Waacking, Tricking, Etc.
Due to the Pandemic and Rock The School Bells wanting to keep everyone safe, we have decided to do a Virtual All-Styles Dance Battle. That same energy that they created in the Bronx in the 70's, we want to transfer that into the Social Media and Internet Universe.
We are looking for all dancers to compete in the Virtual All-Styles Dance Battle and be a part of the RTSB Universe.
HOW TO ENTER THE VIRTUAL ALL-STYLES DANCE BATTLE
For Round 1, anyone can enter the battle by post their video on either TikTok and/or Instagram using the hashtag #RTSB14DanceBattle. Judges will select 10 contestants to advance to Round 2. We post links to each video on this page so you can easily track the battle.
THE PRIZES
1st Place - $200
2nd Place - $100
RULES & REQUIREMENTS
Choose whatever Dance Style you would like to use in your video.
Must be posted on TikTok and/or Instagram using the hashtag #RTSB14DanceBattle.
The duration of each video submission should be 20-30 seconds long.
You cannot enter the battle using a video you have previously posted. It must be a new video.
DEADLINE TO ENTER THE BATTLE (ROUND 1): Friday, April 2 at 11:59 PM PST
HOW YOU WILL BE JUDGED
The judges will choose their favorite dancers. Since these videos will be done remotely, digitally, and through Social Media, feel free to be as creative as possible.
You will also be judged by views, likes and comments on your posts.
The best dancer won't necessarily win, but the most entertaining one will.
NEXT ROUNDS
2nd Round - Top 10 will be chosen and they will need to submit a 2nd Video by the deadline of Friday, April 9 at 11:59 PM. Top 10 will be contacted by Sunday Night on April 11. We will include links to the top 10 on this page.
Final Round - Top 5 will be chosen and they will need to submit a 3rd Video by the deadline of Friday, April 16 at 11:59 PM. Top 5 will be contacted by Sunday Night on April 18. We will include links to the top 5 on this page.
Winners - 1st Place and 2nd Place Winners will be announced at the RTSB14 Final on Friday, April 23. More details to come.
